Election day is over...thankfully...

Yesterday was a long-ass day. Not only because of election day, just partly. I started off in Richmond at about 430am. This was completely unrelated to editorial content. Sometimes freelancing gives you interesting opportunities to shoot other things (translation: there is often good money in it). Like I said, I started off in Richmond at 430am. Actually, it's more like I started off driving to Richmond Monday night at about 530pm, got to my friend's house near richmond by 8, watched a little football (my fantasy football team is still undefeated, thank you), hit the rack and was up bright and early the next morning.
I shot some coffee tasting (a guerilla marketing set-up on the sidewalks of Richmond) run by a marketing group, done for a large company that happens to sell coffee, among other things, and by 930am was back on the road to NoVA. I fiddled with the pictures minimally at home, and was off to Manassas for some election day photos. Filed those for the next day's paper, and then drove to Fairfax for the Keith Fimian party. He is the Republican candidate to challening Democratic incumbent, Gerry Connolly for the 11 District Seat in the US House of Reps. Early on, everyone was very excited as it appeared Fimian was going to hold on to his slim lead. But in the end the Democratic incumbent, Gerry Connolly, won. Home by11pm, I sent a picture for the paper to use on the web, went to bed and didn't get up until 1130am the next day. I don't have any voice, either, but here are some pictures (not of the coffee tasting, mind you, because my client doesn't even have those yet, but the election stuff...).
The Polls...

Fimian Party....
VA Attorney General, Ken Cuccinelli, made an appearance at the rally. He has made enemies and quite a few friends with his stances on global warming, gay rights and health care legislation. Here he signs an autograph for some teens from "Generation Joshua", who also attended the Fimian rally, although they are from Lexington, VA, which is hours away.

The results appeared promising at first...

...but too close to call for most of the night...

Keith Fimian, center, finally made an appearance, before the final tallies were in, thanking his supporters...

...and then the tide turned for Connolly...

...a big night for the Republican party, overall...not so much for Fimian supporters...
