Marines Up Close
Working for The News & Messenger in Prince William County often brings me into contact with the military. Usually, it is the United States Marines, being that Quantico Marine Corps Base is in the county, just of I-95.
So it was last week, that I was able to photograph Marines during the Montford Point Challenge, a race created to honor the first African-American Marines. It pitted 10 squads against each other in a type of obstacle course that valued team-building. It's nothing I would've been able to do. Leaping over obstacles, carrying 60lb ammo boxes and 300lb telephone poles, these candidates from officer candidate school did it all. Here are some pictures from the time I spent during their 45 minutes on the course:
